Bill versus Barney

This is probably a lot less interesting than the title makes it sound, as it is not a booze-tainted fist fight between Bill Clinton and Barney the Dinosaur. Rather, it is a face-off between Bill O'Reilly and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) on the "No-Spin Zone" last evening. If you can't stomach 6 minutes of O'Reilly's shit, skip ahead to the 4 minute mark and watch O'Reilly tell Frank - the only openly gay male member of the United States Congress - that he isn't "man enough" to accept full responsibility for the current financial crisis.

Rep. Frank is very polite about the whole thing, but you can tell by his response that if the average (idiotic and homophobic) Fox News viewer hasn't figured it out, there's a pretty obvious scent of anti-gay slur in O'Reilly's comments. Not that I would expect anything less from him, but it just amazes me the kind of stuff that counts as acceptable on television, even if it is FoxNews.

No doubt there will be plenty of straight, middle-class, white people who can't recognize discrimination even when it's biting someone in the ass. And they will probably preface their "oh please!" comments with disclaimers that they don't agree with everything O'Reilly says - which is code for, "TRUST ME, I'm not a biggot! I just don't believe in calling anyone else out on it." And that is probably the crappiest part of this.
