TGIF: High School Musical THREEEE

Today is a very special day for me.

Fourteen months ago, I came out. This was largely due to my recent viewings of High School Musical 1 and 2 and Hairspray, believe it or not. That probably sounds like the stupidest thing in the world - or at least the most stereotypical - but let me explain.

I had just watched all these movies and realized three things: (a) I really like musicals, (b) I was really attracted to Zac Efron, even though I hadn't been attracted to guys like him in the past, and (c) the love that the characters in these movies were searching for, despite the challenges and the prejudices and the odds that they faced, was what I wanted, too.

And somewhere in the wake of all that, I finally allowed myself to accept that - yep - I was gay, and it was pointless to hide it. In the following weeks I came out to all of my friends and basically everyone in my life here in DC (with Connecticut kept in the dark for a while).

So today, it is with great pleasure that I will go to see the final chapter of High School Musical, and not worry if it fulfills a stupid stereotype, because in this one instance I am completely stereotypical. To quote Pam from the office, "I know that sounds cliche and I know saying it sounds cliche sounds cliche. Maybe I'm being cliche, I don't care cause I am what I am... that's Popeye."

I will leave you with the following amazing clip. Happy Friday, and Happy High School Musical.
