Maybe Roseanne (yes, that Roseanne) was right when she said last year on her talk show that all gay people can talk about is stuff that effects them and other gay people. She was speaking specifically about politics. Then again, maybe it's because queers are the single-most institutionally discriminated against demographic group in the country that we feel we should at least be considered somewhat of a priority.
I downloaded Senator Obama's 64-page "Blueprint for America" the other day and have been reading through it got to the section on civil rights where I expected some kind of acknowledgment of the Gay Gap in American civil liberties. I expected to read the reasoning behind his pro-civil union, but that's it, stance, and say "I love you anyway." But... nothing. So I searched the document for all the usual suspects - civil unions, LGBTQ, etc - and found nothing.
Nothing! About a key Democratic base support group. About a group of people who get screwed for who they screw. About issues that are used so frequently to divide America, they really need to be considered in any discussion of uniting America.
Or maybe it's my insanity that's to blame for always dragging politics into situations that do not warrant it, and then dragging gender and sexuality issues into that. (I turned a class discussion today on the sociopolitics of Turkish housing architecture into a debate on perceptions and realities of feminist power dynamics in American families. Seriously.) Things enter my mind as separate entities, but all of these social and political and general observations all leave intertwined somehow, like some vast conspiracy that might have plotted against Hillary Clinton during her first (and, godwilling, only) White House years.
And so I need a place to vent all of this garbage, and to make my commentary on subjects ranging from, and often mixing together, politics, queer issues, gender issues, social observations, as well as the inevitable personal drama that comes from being, you know, "dramatic." I can only blab so much in twitter (140 characters, to be exact), so this seemed like a logical step.
Now I need to go to sleep, because all-nighter hangover + more coffee = headache. Ya dig?
